Luke 16:14-15   “The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all this, and they scoffed at him. But he said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts; for what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.”

 RSV

Remembering the words of Jesus in the preceding verses; summed up in Jesus’ statement: “…You cannot serve God and mammon.”  This is what the Pharisees scoffed at.  Apparently they believed they could serve God and mammon.  As we look at their opposition to Jesus, we see the truth of Jesus’ teaching.  How about us, do we believe (and act like) we can serve God and mammon?  What does God want you to do differently?

Dear Holy Spirit, Spirit of Jesus, open our eyes to see what you want to change in our lives to better serve you.  Amen.
