Matthew 5:9, 10 RSV

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

If peacemakers are to be called sons of God, doesn’t this say that peace is a characteristic of God? 

The need for peacemakers because there is conflict.  We all know that.  We see that. We feel that.  What is the source of the conflict?  This verse makes it clear that at least some of the conflict is persecution of the righteous.
