Thursday, November 27, 2025 Thanksgiving Day

Luke 4:5-8   “And the devil took him up, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory; for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. If you, then, will worship me, it shall all be yours.” And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’ ””

RSV

Jesus’ quotation of the scripture sounds very much like:

Deuteronomy 6:13 “You shall fear the Lord your God; you shall serve him, and swear by his name.”      RSV

Or:

Deuteronomy 10:12-13  ““And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord, which I command you this day for your good?”    RSV

Or:

Deuteronomy 10:20   “You shall fear the Lord your God; you shall serve him and cleave to him, and by his name you shall swear.”

RSV

It looks as if the word “fear” used in the RSV translation, Jesus translated as “worship”.

God bless you today as you think about your relationship to God.

These verses are still the way God calls us to live.  To worship the Lord is a blessing.
