Here is today’s portion of God’s Word.:

Luke 6:12-16   “In these days he went out to the mountain to pray; and all night he continued in prayer to God. And when it was day, he called his disciples, and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles; Simon, whom he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot, and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.”

 RSV

“….all night he continued in prayer to God.”  Apparently seeking the Father and communing with Him was more important to Jesus than His sleep.  The mention of this night in pray just before selecting His apostles, suggests that Jesus was praying about, and for, His Apostles.  Is this similar to: “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words.” ?    Romans 8:26 RSV

May we be blessed by the awareness of God’s loving intercession for us.
