Luke 14:34-35 ““Salt is good; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltness be restored? It is fit neither for the land nor for the dunghill; men throw it away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.””
RSV
This is similar to the passage in Matthew 5 in which Jesus says
“You are the salt of the earth…”. Perhaps the preceding parables made the “you are” portion unnecessary in this instance. In those preceding passages Jesus describes those who could not finish what they started. Those two parables followed Jesus’ call to His disciples to place Him above all other loves and allegiances.
Keep Him above all others, then have the power to finish the works assigned to us.
