Luke 9:7-9    “Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done, and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead, by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen. Herod said, “John I beheaded; but who is this about whom I hear such things?” And he sought to see him.”

Jesus is Lord!  Perhaps that explains this curiosity of Herod.  He recognized a power greater than his own, that was righteous, even holy.   However, this may be an appropriate place to remember the words of Mary, praising God:  “He has shown strength with his arm, he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts, he has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted those of low degree; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away.”  (Luke 1:51-53 RSV)
