Luke 4:42-44  “And when it was day he departed and went into a lonely place. And the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them; but he said to them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for I was sent for this purpose.” And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.”

 RSV

Elsewhere in the Gospels Jesus says:  “For I have not spoken on my own authority; the Father who sent me has himself given me commandment what to say and what to speak.”John 12:49 RSV

As described in other places in the gospels, it was Jesus’ practice to start His day with His Father.  On the morning described in today’s passage, did Jesus get a directive from His Father to go to the synagogues of Judea?  That seems likely.

Dear Heavenly Father, what do you have for us to do today?  Please enable us to walk with the Spirit of Jesus today.   Amen.

May you see God’s blessings today.
