Matthew 5:4-5 RSV
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Do “those that mourn” first need to be those who have loved? Is Jesus saying that those who have lost one who they have loved will be comforted? Is love really the issue here, and mourning a sign, a proof of the love?
What about the meek inheriting the earth? It does not appear to me that the meek have inherited the earth, yet. Is Jesus talking about an inward inheritance of the earth, now? Is He talking about a future inheritance of the earth, as when we pray: “May Your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven”? What does/will that look like when the meek inherit the earth?
